Easy No-Phyllo Orange Pie

Ingredients for the orange pie

  • 250 g sugar
  • 200 g strained yogurt
  • 180 g all-purpose flour
  • 150 g Lurpak cow milk butter
  • 150 fine semolina
  • 120 g coarse semolina
  • 20 g baking powder
  • 4 medium eggs
  • 2 vanilla vials
  • zest from 3 oranges

Ingredients for the syrup

  • 400 g sugar
  • 300 ml fresh orange juice
  • 300 ml water
  • 50 g honey
  • orange peels (from 1 orange)

Method for the syrup

In a pot, add all the ingredients needed for the syrup, and heat until they come to a boil.

Then, remove from the stove, set aside, and let it cool down.

Method for the orange pie

Place the butter in a coffee pot, and melt it over low heat, without burning it.

Afterwards, in a mixer’s bowl add the eggs and sugar, and beat at medium to high speed, using the whisk attachment. Beat until light and fluffy.

Right after, and while whisking, add the lukewarm melted butter.

Next, add the rest of the ingredients, and beat for one more minute.

Butter and flour a rectangular 25×30 baking pan, and transfer the mixture into it. Bake in a preheated oven, on the middle oven rack, at 180 C fan, for about 35-40 minutes.

Finally, remove the orange pie from the oven, and while it is still hot cut into pieces, and then pour the cold syrup over the pie.
